In early April 2004 she shocked Sweden by revealing that her father was a Turk living in Istanbul. Her mother had conceived Vendela in Istanbul.

Vendela's father is from Sweden, not Turkey. In an interview she said "My ethnicity? I'm Norwegian-Swedish, ethnically." Her father's name is Lennart Persson, not a Turk.
